P&F140 – Power & Free floor conveyor in operation @ PAINTBOX Ltd.
In the competitive world of automotive exterior finishing, the ability to deliver flawless paintwork on complex plastic parts is vital. For Paintbox Limited, based in Kings Norton, United Kingdom, CALDAN provided an advanced P&F140 floor conveyor system. This 208-meter installation is designed to handle the intricate requirements of flaming, painting, and curing high-value automotive components for some of the world’s leading vehicle brands.
The Paintbox project required a material handling solution that could navigate multiple specialized treatment zones. To achieve a premium automotive finish, the system had to meet several technical criteria:
1. Precise rotation control: The parts required different types of rotation, both motorized and pneumatic, at various stages of the process to ensure 100% paint coverage.
2. High-volume throughput: With a cycle time of just 3.0 minutes, the system needed to maintain a consistent flow of 20 wagons per hour to meet production targets.
3. Diverse component handling: The conveyor had to manage a wide range of plastic parts up to 2,400 mm in length and 125 kg in weight, including the jig fixtures.
The P&F140 system was chosen for its versatility and its ability to integrate complex rotation and accumulation logic. Key technical features of this UK installation include:
– Motorized and pneumatic rotation: To provide maximum flexibility, the system features motorized rotation during standstill in the flaming and spray booth areas, and pneumatic rotation during flash-off and cooling stages.
– Automated stop positions: Loading and unloading are handled manually in stationary positions, ensuring operator safety and precise part placement before the wagons index back into the automated flow.
– Robust cardan chain technology: The 208-meter track is powered by our reliable cardan chain, providing the stability needed for the 8-wheeled wagons even when fully loaded with heavy automotive jigs.
– Optimized system length: The layout ensures that parts have the necessary time for flash-off and cooling without taking up unnecessary floor space, thanks to the compact design of the P&F140 track.
By integrating the Caldan UK conveyor system, Paintbox Limited has strengthened its position as a Tier 1 supplier of painted plastic components. The P&F140 technology provides the reliability and precision required for the most demanding automotive coating standards in the United Kingdom.
