Meet the CALDANIANS
Name: Frederik HornTitle: Sales Manager, Scandinavia
Workplace: CALDAN Denmark
Behind every conveyor system CALDAN has delivered worldwide, there is a person making it happen, and Frederik is one of the people who has been shaping projects from the very first sketch.
Where engineering meets sales
Frederik holds a double degree as a Global Business Engineer and a Mechanical Engineer. Before joining CALDAN, he spent time at Beumer Group, the company formerly known as Crisplant, where he sat at the drawing board and built a feel for the technical side of a project. That background is exactly what he leans on today. The combination of a heavier technical foundation and a commercial mindset gives him a broader view of a project than either discipline alone. He can tell whether a solution can realistically be built, and whether it makes sense for the customer. That dual perspective often brings possible pitfalls to the surface early, before they turn into problems on the factory floor.
Starting with a blank canvas
One of Frederik’s very first jobs at CALDAN, four and a half years ago, was helping build the CALDAN Academy from the ground up. It was a wide-ranging role that pulled on most of his skills at once, and it set the tone for what he enjoys most about the work. For Frederik, the best part of sales is sitting with a blank canvas and helping a customer from A to Z. He likes being involved early, sometimes before the building that will house the conveyor has even been put up, and finding a solution together. Often that means proposing something the customer had not considered. There has to be substance behind every suggestion, which is why the technical understanding matters. A good idea is only worth proposing if it can actually be realised.
What 4,5 years at CALDAN teaches you
Ask Frederik what he has learned, and he points to perspective. He has learned to look beyond his own area, to take in the bigger picture, and to keep other departments in mind when making a decision. Knowing the challenges his colleagues face, and how a choice in one place affects the work somewhere else, has made him a sharper project lead. Much of that learning happens in the room with customers. Knowing when to put an idea forward and when to hold back is not something taught at school, and it shifts from country to country and culture to culture. It is the kind of judgement you only build by going out, sitting down, and talking things through. His way of working reflects it. He likes to analyse a task, turn it over with the right people, and make sure the direction is sound before pushing ahead at pace. Getting another set of eyes on a problem matters to him, but so does keeping things moving. Above all, he listens to the customer. What keeps him at CALDAN is the people and the freedom. Nobody here is boxed in. People are given responsibility, room to try things, and space to grow into their role, and that makes the work rewarding.
The new role
As Sales Manager Scandinavia, Frederik takes on a remit that already fits the ground he covers. His projects have taken him across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Germany, and the new role will keep him close to customers throughout the Nordic market. CALDAN has been engineering conveyor systems since 1963, with 60 years of experience and subsidiaries across Europe, the United States and India, and Scandinavia remains a home market where those relation-ships run deep.
Off the clock
Away from work, Frederik is a self-confessed sports addict. Football, padel, golf, running, cycling, long walks and the gym all feature in a given week, often shared with his partner. He is competitive, but strictly within the fun of it. For Frederik, the point of sport is the company as much as the contest. When he is not moving, he enjoys travelling, time at the summer house, being by the water, good food and a cold beer.
